Could you be tripling your risk of stroke and dementia?

It sounds innocent enough: “Equal.”

You see those little packets in pretty much every coffee shop and restaurant – not to mention on the shelves of your local supermarket.

And by its other name, “NutraSweet,” you might even think that it was NUTRITIOUS. But make no mistake: The “0 calorie sweetener” contained in both of these brand-name products, aspartame (a combination of aspartic acid and phenylalanine), isn’t doing you any good.

In fact, the amount of controversy, research, and evidence that shows that aspartame is “bad for you” is enough to boggle the mind! There have been MANY studies that show how aspartame is not just unhealthy… but flat-out dangerous.

And now, a new blockbuster study blows the lid off on aspartame – linking it to a substantial increase in stroke and dementia.
There’s no easy way to explain the turn of events that has occurred from the discovery of this neurotoxin… from its shady approval process… to its ubiquitous use all over the world… to the dangers we now know.

But a lot of it boils down to an industry that’s more focused on following the money rather than keeping you safe.

Aspartame is one of the most utilised artificial sugars, with 50 per cent of the market share in the US alone.

And where there’s a lot of money, there’s bound to be some greed and deception.

Here’s what you need to know to stay safe.

All it takes is one a day

There are so many studies and side effects of aspartame to note that it would be impossible to detail them all to you here.

But when I say dangerous, I mean cancer, holes in your brain, diabetes, heart disease, and a host of other horrible maladies.

And in the new study, published in the April 2017 edition of Stroke magazine, researchers took data from the well-respected Framingham Heart Study and looked at the link between stroke risk and artificial sugar in take in close to 3,000 adults older than 45 and the link between dementia risk and artificial sugar in about 1,500 people over 60.

They followed these people over 10 years, and the results were equally damning for each group.

If you were in either of those age groups… and had just on average ONE diet beverage a day (versus none)… your risk of these horrible disease went up three-fold.1 Let me say that again: Small quantities of artificially-sweetened drinks can TRIPLE your risk of stroke and dementia.

It’s just common sense that something artificial cannot be “good” for you. And this fake “sugar” might even be WORSE than real sugar!

The interesting fact about the controversy about this fake sugar is that there is still doubt about WHY the damage occurs – as was raised in the critiques of this new study.

But the link between aspartame and dementia didn’t surprise me one bit, knowing that, once it gets into the body, one of the components of aspartame is converted
into formaldehyde.

That’s right – formaldehyde, what bodies are embalmed with.

Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen and is EXTREMELY neurotoxic to the brain.

Some people saw this coming

But actually, this “news” isn’t all that NEW.

Some very convincing evidence of how this chemical can cause cancer and brain abnormalities emerged BEFORE it was approved in 1981.2

In fact, back in the 1970s, a few smart, compassionate and honest people were so appalled that medical authorities were actually considering to approve aspartame – even though there were some concerning studies that eluded to its risks – that they filed a formal objection to regulatory bodies like the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA), begging them to get more scientific data before allowing this toxic chemical to be unleashed to the world.3

In fact, one of the same people that filed this objection in the 1970’s was part of legal action taken against the FDA in 1983, objecting to aspartame’s approval due to unresolved safety issues.

This illustrates a HUGE flaw in medical studies. Artificial products and chemicals that go in to our body in small dosages are not seen as problematic in the short run – and, hence, “pass” medical scrutiny and appear to be “safe.”

But at REPEATED small dosages… over a period of time… they build up and cause slow but significant damage to the human body. Therefore, just because a chemical or drug does not cause a toxic effect in the initial studies, it does not mean that it is safe to use repeatedly.

But the fact is, the FDA approval process just isn’t long enough to allow these long-term effects to be recognised.

Subsequently, multiple studies have emerged over the last few years that shed more light on the hidden, insidious dangers of the toxic neurochemical of aspartame.

A study out of Israel showed that this foreign chemical is so disruptive to the body that it promotes a gut bacterium to thrive and that changes the metabolism of sugar.4
There were even some recent studies that have shown that this chemical actually CAUSES diabetes, as well as
weight gain.

And yet today, the sweetener is found in about 6,000 products around the world – including carbonated fizzy drinks, powdered drinks, chewing gum, confections, gelatins, dessert-mixes, puddings and fillings, frozen desserts, yoghurt, sweeteners, and some pharmaceuticals such as vitamins and sugar-free cough drops.5

Basically, it’s ubiquitous.

Too good to be true

With a lot of money and political power, one can sneak through the scientific process and poison our food supply with something so insidious that it could become almost impossible to get out.

Aspartame was SUPPOSED to be the saviour for the obesity epidemic… hence why the fizzy drinks that contain it are called DIET fizzy drinks. But the pitfall of aspartame is that when you consume it, it activates your brain’s pleasure centre but due to the lack of calories doesn’t actually satisfy it.

Therefore, you need and want MORE food and sugar… setting up a cascade of harmful effects that lead to even more obvious problems.

In fact, some advocacy groups have petitioned fizzy drinks companies to remove the word “diet” from products that contain aspartame. These groups feel that it’s dangerous and actually could be criminal to mislead the public in to thinking that these drinks are “good for you” and are a “better choice.”

Thanks to these new studies, the true colours of this artificial sweetener have finally been revealed – and, fortunately, it’s not your ONLY choice.
