Because of the incredible dangers of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen and aspirin, I’m always searching for and recommending natural remedies for inflammation.
According to studies, the use of NSAIDs can lead to kidney damage, platelet issues, heart failure, liver damage as well as high blood pressure and heart attack. In fact, we can attribute more than 100,000 hospitalisations a year to the use of NSAIDs. And there are more than 16,000 people who DIE each year from NSAID-related complications!1,2
But I’ve found a safe alternative, called Traumeel.
It’s homeopathic and anti-inflammatory… and it’ll come in handy if you keep it in stock at home for whenever you or your loved ones have aches and pains as well as acute sprains, strains, and bruises.
Since Traumeel works best when you use it as soon after a ‘trauma’ as possible, it deserves a place in your medicine cabinet at ALL times!
Even though this isn’t a blockbuster remedy that is going to eradicate cancer, the practicality of it and what it can do to protect your stomach and kidneys from the perils of anti-inflammatory drugs is extremely powerful.
Pain relief that spares your stomach
Traumeel is so powerful and effective because it has multiple remedies in it – and therefore attempts to address any form of trauma. And even though each of its ingredients has its own mechanism of action, its power may actually be the sum of its parts!
That sets it apart from other remedies, like arnica cream (which is commonly used for injuries or bruising). Of course, Traumeel actually INCLUDES arnica, as well as a dozen other ingredients!
Studies have shown that Traumeel is effective for ‘acute musculoskeletal injuries, including pain and swelling’.3 This, of course, is the time that most people are going to accidentally overdose on ibuprofen or aspirin because they’re too distracted by their level of pain to think about their poor vulnerable stomach lining.
In fact, a journal article back in 2011 explained that Traumeel has shown ‘comparable effectiveness to NSAIDs in terms of reducing symptoms of inflammation, accelerating recovery, improving mobility with a favourable safety profile’.4
I’d accept HALF the level of efficacy of certain NSAIDs for certain conditions!
Now, these studies are impressive but, ultimately, they’re subjective. Pain levels are determined based on what the patient reports. For the ‘real’ scientists out there, there are some objective studies that show real physical evidence – for example, that Traumeel lowered blood levels of inflammation markers (e.g. interleukins and TNF).5
This remedy is the ‘real deal’!
Reduce inflammation and actually heal the pain!
Traumeel has been used in over 50 countries, and it’s been used in Germany for over 70 years! It was even included in the Physicians’ Desk Reference, which is like the ‘bible’ of medications and therefore gives this remedy a lot of street ‘cred’.
One benefit of Traumeel is that it won’t mask your pain. This means that it works on certain mechanisms that lessen inflammation whilem promoting healing.
NSAIDs, on the other hand, can impair the healing process because they shut down the actual chemicals that your body is using to heal the injury. Then, the NSAIDs could work almost too well in covering up the pain… and you might go out and overdo it.
The other HUGE benefit of Traumeel is its safety profile. There are about 10 medical studies that show that Traumeel is extremely well-tolerated with minimal to no severe side effects, disease exacerbations, or drug interactions.6
The only real side effects may be some redness at the area of application, headache, or mild nausea. In fact, the safety profile is so benign that the manufacturer recommends its use even on
File under: Why Not?
There isn’t a lot of risk and a ton of gain to make this an essential part of your emergency ‘medicine’ cabinet. It’s perfect for any immediate trauma or musculoskeletal condition that involves a sprain, strain, or bruising.
I always recommend Traumeel first whenever my patients ask me what they should do before and after an operation. If you think about it, surgical intervention to the human body is just a form of purposeful trauma – and I’ve seen this homeopathic remedy help people heal much more quickly from surgical interventions and have less need for pain medications.
You could even use it right after an aggressive workout or physical therapy session to reduce the aches and pains that follow. Traumeel comes in many forms: gel, ointment, drops, tablets, and an injectable version. Although the studies used injections, I prefer topical application, since it allows you to use it right at the source of pain.
And that helps it get to work right away.
You won’t find Traumeel by name anymore, now that its German owner has sold it to an American company. It’s now available at most health food stores and pharmacies labelled as ‘T-Relief.’
The way I look at it, with the side effects of NSAIDs, why wouldn’t you try this powerful, homeopathic remedy first?
In fact, its maker, MediNatura, has an ‘empty bottle guarantee’: You can use the whole bottle, and if you’re not satisfied, you can get a full refund.
Wishing you the best of health,
