Dirty air may be stealing your precious memories!

I spend a lot of time researching new and important treatments for my patients as well as investigating the latest advances and breakthroughs to keep you up to date with the latest cutting-edge breakthroughs. And recently I stumbled upon something that was both shocking and, somehow, not surprising.

It turns out that we have PROOF of at least one cause of Alzheimer’s! It’s not a curse… and it’s not a punishment from above. In fact, it’s something that we have control over – and, if you look at it a certain way, something that we’ve actually done to ourselves.

Indeed, we may be subjecting ourselves to this devastating disease just by taking a deep breath! Because, as some new studies indicate, air pollution may be the culprit behind Alzheimer’s.

But despite what you might hear from the mainstream media (and conventional medicine), the passage of toxins into your body – and brain – isn’t a ‘one-way street’. Once they get in, they CAN get back out. And fortunately there are safe, natural, and even FREE ways of doing that, if you know where to look for help.

Traffic fumes can wreck your memory

The first study that piqued my interest was just published in The Lancet and argued that living close to roads that are heavily congested with traffic is associated with a higher incidence of dementia.

Now that’s quite shocking!

I might’ve been a bit more sceptical had I found this elsewhere on the internet, but this was published in a world-renowned and respected journal. And besides, this Canadian study was well-designed and included a population large enough (6.6 million!) to draw some pretty definitive conclusions. The study showed that with all other risk factors filtered out, if you live 50 metres from a major road, you’ve got a 7 per cent greater risk of developing dementia.1

Now, in the medical world, that’s a pretty big risk.

But what was fascinating about this new research was that a reduction in the risk of dementia corresponded with how far the subjects lived from the road. For instance, the risk of dementia was only 4 per cent greater from 50 to 100 metres away from the road; and it was only 2 per cent greater at a distance of 100 to 200 metres.
Beyond 200 metres, there was practically ZERO increased risk!

Interestingly, they did not find any further risk associated with proximity to the road for Multiple Sclerosis or Parkinson’s. The researchers theorise that it is most likely the pollutants from the car exhaust that cause the brain damage. (Well, there’s no surprise there.)

But, during my research of this study, I found another even more mind-blowing study, which is even MORE convincing about the dangers of air pollution.

Pollutants are invading your brain

Last year, UK researchers showed actual, physical evidence of how pollutants can get into your brain.

Using sophisticated imaging techniques, the researchers discovered millions of tiny magnetic crystals (called magnetite) in the brains of patients who hadn’t been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s (some as young as three years old).2

Shockingly, the researchers confirmed that the magnetite was an airborne source – almost certainly a by-product of combustion engines and braking systems. What’s more, these magnetic crystals were accompanied by nanoparticles that also contained toxic heavy metals such as platinum, nickel, and cobalt.

The majority of these tiny magnetic toxic crystals were found in the frontal cortex of the brain. This is important because the frontal cortex is a direct shot north of the nose. Therefore, it makes logical sense that that’s where airborne toxins would reach first, especially since these toxic particles are so small (the width of a human hair) that the mucous lining and the hairs in the nose – our body’s own natural air filter – can’t trap them before they travel into the body.

The authors of the study noted that this entry point to the brain is feasible because, as lead author Dr. Barbara Maher is quoted as saying; “There’s no blood-brain barrier there…that’s a real vulnerability.” And that means that, in theory, once these toxins enter the brain through this ‘weak spot’, they can then travel to OTHER places in the brain to wreak havoc.

Seeing this stuff show up in your brain is scary enough if you don’t have Alzheimer’s. But this study holds so much weight because there’s ALREADY evidence of magnetite being found in the amyloid plaque of Alzheimer’s patients!3

All of the data that I’ve mentioned here makes for a pretty darn convincing argument that pollution is at least one of the root causes of Alzheimer’s. It’s pretty scary that the correlation between air pollution and Alzheimer’s is THAT obvious… and the data is THAT strong.

How much more proof do we need before we start treating?

These studies and this type of data always infuriate me, though, because the scientific community is ignoring, disbelieving, or covering up two huge elephants in the room.

The first is that every study that comes out about the subject of toxins and human health and disease ends with the same lame statement: ‘Further research is needed to prove the link.’

Every provocative, life-changing, and health-conscious study ALWAYS ends with that same sentence or conclusion!

They usually go on to say that there’s no way to absolutely PROVE this link. I’m always infuriated and dumbfounded at the medical world and its defensive stance with these studies and conclusions.

It’s so frustrating that every time a great study is published, which shows links (such as the ones I’ve mentioned here), no one will believe them until another study is done.

Well, the truth of the matter is that further ‘good’ studies that will prove facts like this will take many more years to complete. Therefore the issue is now side-lined or punted down the road – and a few more million people will die before something is done.

While I’m well aware that it’s almost impossible to 100 per cent prove a causation about toxins and human disease, how much MORE proof do we need that there is causation here?

Make your toxins take a U-turn

The other elephant in the room is the fact that the conventional medical community believes that once these toxins get in the body, they can’t be brought back out. This timid approach is so irrational to an integrative medical doctor like myself, whose whole goal in life is to heal people and to find the root causes of their disease.

In the first study discussed above, the head researcher from Canada made an amazingly blunt admission, stating that there’s no cure for dementia and no effective treatment. And I appreciate his honesty, as well as his fortitude to even do a study like this.

But all the time and money that’s spent trying to do studies such as this but not giving the world an answer on how to treat it is downright depressing! I’ll admit that the conventional doctors aren’t trained in an offensive form of medicine… and we can’t ENTIRELY blame them… but we CAN blame them for not having an open mind to detoxification and getting these toxins out of the body!

The glaring and obvious truth is that the conventional medical world is set up for band-aiding your ailments with prescription medications.

Finding the root cause and fixing it BEFORE prescribing drugs would definitely put a dent in Big Pharma’s pocketbooks.

What needs to be flushed out of YOUR system?

Every doctor and researcher affiliated with these studies admitted that the pollution in the world has to decrease. And I’ll admit that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Things have gotten so bad that there’s no shortage of reports and websites about air pollution, but that’s also good news. I’m glad to see A LOT of talk, internet chatter, and ‘movements’ to start to clean up cities and the environment.

But let’s face the truth: This problem isn’t going to get fixed in our lifetime. And we’re not all not going to move out of big cities… move father than 200 feet from a major road… or stop breathing in air.

So, it still boggles my mind that the conventional medical community doesn’t believe in – or at least ask us integrative doctors about – detoxification strategies.

I’ll also admit that detoxification ISN’T some simple, easy, one-size-fits-all approach to cleaning and cleansing the body. There are a few different approaches that can be taken and that need to be customized, depending on what it is that you’re trying to get OUT.

Of course, one of the best ‘free’ ways to detox is by sweating – whether that’s with exercise or some form of sauna.

The simplest detoxification method that aids with most toxins is the use of the supplement and super food, chlorella. I’m also always a fan of supporting the liver (the major detoxification organ of the body) with supplements such as milk thistle.

Last but not least, there are certain conditions and circumstances that warrant chelation therapy. This is an intravenous detoxification strategy for heavy metals (such as the platinum, nickel, and cobalt found in the magnetite crystals discussed above) that you’ll have to find an integrative medical doctor to administer.

The good and the bad news is that there are many other detoxification strategies available, but you should find a qualified health practitioner to aid you if you want to take a more aggressive approach.

Wishing you the best of health,
