Vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids improve Parkinson’s symptoms

From pesticides in the food we eat… to chemicals in the products we use on our bodies and in our homes… sometimes it seems like there’s “nowhere to run to” and “nowhere to hide” from toxins in our daily lives.

Now, we already know that being exposed to toxins can double your chances of developing Parkinson’s disease. These chemicals can stress the delicate cells in your brain (neurons) and even cause them to die.

Parkinson’s is usually diagnosed when 50 to 80 per cent of these neurons are already dead – and there’s no drug you can take to stop that process.

But according to a new study, there’s a natural way to protect your neurons from damaging toxins – because supplementing your diet with vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids can improve the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease by shielding your brain cells.

In the study, published in Neurochemical International, a group of 60 Parkinson’s patients were randomly assigned to receive either a combo of omega-3 fatty acid supplements from flax seed oil along with vitamin E or a placebo.

Vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids have something of a reputation for being “neuroprotective” – meaning they combat the “free radicals” in your brain cells that are produced from toxic stress.

And after three months, the group who received the supplements were feeling and functioning a whole lot better, compared to the group who took the placebo.

Not only that, but the combination of vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids also lowered their blood sugar, which is a major plus – because we already know that having high blood sugar can predispose you to Parkinson’s and even worsen symptoms.

A third finding showed that this power duo also increased their levels of glutathione, the “master antioxidant” that your body produces to guard your brain cells from toxic damage.

That’s pretty solid evidence that the vitamin-E/omega-3 supplement duo is a TRIPLE threat for Parkinson’s disease!

So, whether you’ve got Parkinson’s… or just want to reduce your risk of developing it… make sure to get plenty of vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids in your diet.

Leafy greens, avocados, nuts, and seeds are excellent sources of vitamin E, while omega-3 fatty acids can be found in oily fish like salmon and mackerel as well as nuts and flaxseeds.

Both of these nutrients are also readily available in supplement form. Just make sure to talk to a doc who’s well-versed in integrative medicine about the right dosage for you.

But don’t stop there – be sure to limit your exposure to toxins as much as possible by eating organic and buying only natural home and personal care products.
