Could onion skins lower your high blood pressure?

If you’ve been struggling with high blood pressure for years, I bet you’ve been searching high and low for ANYTHING that will help control your blood pressure levels.

You’ve probably tried the tasteless low-sodium diet… or a diuretic that had you making a trip to that bathroom twice an hour… or even some ACE inhibitor that left you feeling tired and nauseous all day.

But it looks like the secret to true and lasting hypertension relief can be found somewhere you never dreamed of looking.

A new study from Germany shows how the skins from your typical onion — the same skins we throw in the bin — may hold the secret to lower blood pressure and better health.

Researchers from the University of Bonn recruited overweight people with high blood pressure to spend six weeks taking either a placebo or a powerful compound called quercetin, extracted from onion skins.

You’ve heard me talk about quercetin before. It’s an antioxidant found in lots of plants, including onions, kale, apples, berries, citrus fruits and tea.

I the study, it took just six short weeks of taking 162mg of quercetin a day for patients to see their blood pressure levels start to drop.

I’m a big fan of quercetin supplements — which you can find inexpensively online or at any health food store — and I use quercetin supplements in my own clinic all the time.

And not just to treat high blood pressure, either — but to actually prevent cancer.

Studies have shown that quercetin cuts off the communication between cancer cells, which can force them to die through a process called apoptosis.

Quercetin is incredibly healthy, all natural and doesn’t some with the laundry list of side affects you get with prescription drugs.

If you’ve been working to control your blood pressure, there’s no risk in giving quercetin a few months to work its magic. You might never look at an onion skin the same way again.

Wishing you the best of health,
