The delicious way to keep prostate cancer at bay

Gentlemen, if you’ve been diagnosed with prostate cancer, it may seem like you’ve got only two choices.

First, you can follow mainstream medical advice and take the “slash and burn” approach of cutting first and asking questions later.

Otherwise, you can take the “active surveillance” approach I recommend to my patients and “wait and see” if it becomes aggressive before you take any action at all.

Now, do I really expect you to sit on your hands and do nothing, while the threat of cancer looms over your head (and, not to mention, below your belt)?

No! Because according to the latest science, there is a way you can stack the cards in your favor when it comes to your prostate cancer… and it comes in the form of a tasty snack.

A recent Harvard Medical School study shows that eating tree nuts (pistachios, cashews, almonds) can actually slash your risk of dying from prostate cancer by 34 per cent.

This comes as no surprise to me, as I’ve been telling you about this nutrient rich, Paleo friendly super food for a while… it’s so good it can reduce your risk of colon cancer, heart disease and even diabetes.

For this study, researchers followed 47,000 men for over 25 years; of the men they tracked, 6,800 developed prostate cancer.

And while eating nuts won’t prevent the development of prostate cancer, in the new study the men who already had prostate cancer were far less likely to die from it by adding a few handfuls of nuts to their diet.

They didn’t even have to “go nuts” with their portion sizes – because their death risk was reduced by eating roughly five servings of nuts per week.

So how big was the serving? Just one ounce! (That’s about 45 pistachios, 24 almonds, or 18 cashews.)

This new study supports the findings of a study out of UC Davis from a couple of years ago that found that walnuts in particular could fight prostate cancer.

Of course, none of this comes as a surprise to me. Nuts are rich in antioxidants and vitamin E… and they’ve been shown to reduce inflammation and insulin resistance… all of which are key a successful battle with prostate cancer.

Nuts are also a flavorful addition to any Paleo-friendly meal… tossed into a salad or stir-fry… or even used as a crust or coating on your chicken or fish.

Just make sure they’re not coated in sugar, chocolate or “honey roasted”…
